Started as a Developer
Began my career building websites and business systems. Six years of hands-on engineering taught me that the best technology is the kind people actually use.
About
Chris Brown, Gloucestershire.

I'm Chris Brown, based in Gloucestershire. I started as a developer, spent nine years as CTO leading engineering and delivery, then stepped up to CEO as we scaled the agency to 50+ people and exited to private equity.
CLB Digital exists because too much technology work is made harder than it needs to be: vague proposals, expensive rebuilds, AI noise and systems no one enjoys using. The job here is simpler — give straight advice, build what is useful, and avoid the rest.
The story so far
Twenty-odd years, condensed.
2004
Began my career building websites and business systems. Six years of hands-on engineering taught me that the best technology is the kind people actually use.
2010
Stepped up to lead engineering, architecture, and delivery across the agency. Nine years of building teams, shipping products, and learning what goes wrong (and right) on big builds.
2019
Stepped up as CEO while we grew the agency to 50+ people. Learned as much about running a business as I did about technology — probably more.
2025
Exited to private equity. A proud moment for the whole team, and proof that the approach worked.
2025
Set up on my own to work directly with business owners who need good technology but don't want the hassle of managing a big agency.
Working with Chris
In their words, not ours.
“I was dreading another big IT project after being burned before. Chris made it painless — he actually listened to what we needed and delivered exactly that. No drama, no surprises.”
“Chris has helped us turn a complex idea into something clear and practical. He brings calm technical leadership, keeps the focus on the user journey, and explains the trade-offs in plain English.”
Next step
Useful technology work needs commercial judgement as much as technical delivery. If that is the gap, let’s talk.
